AUTHOR: Strategic Perspectives
Strategic Perspectives, in collaboration with ECCO Climate, will host a public, high-level event gathering European Union officials, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), experts, and civil society actors to discuss key levers, policy priorities, and actionable strategies to accelerate a clean energy transition across the Mediterranean.
The event will take place on Thursday, 12 February, 8h30-10h30 CET. Registration is available via this page.
The ongoing instability of global energy markets has prompted the European Union to rethink its energy diplomacy and pursue new strategic partnerships. The Southern Neighbourhood has therefore emerged as a key region for diversifying the EU’s energy supply. At the same time, it has positioned the Mediterranean space as a potential hub for cooperation on renewable energy and green molecules. From this perspective, there is an incentive to progressively reshape regional energy patterns around clean industrial value chains and the deployment of renewables rather than hydrocarbons.
Against this backdrop, the recently released New Pact for the Mediterranean has set the framework to unlock regional potential. Achieving this requires strong political commitment, coordinated investments, and a robust policy and regulatory cooperation. The upcoming Trans-Mediterranean Renewable Energy and Clean Tech initiative (T-MED) offers a timely opportunity to advance cross-border renewable energy projects and industrial partnerships, thereby strengthening regional energy security, creating employment opportunities, and positioning Europe as a clean-energy leader.
This high-level virtual event aims to build political momentum around EU energy diplomacy in the Mediterranean, especially ahead of the official publication of the T-MED initiative. The draft agenda is available below and will be regularly updated.
